Learn MoreWhy We Support Small Businesses
Small businesses are the backbone of innovation and economic opportunity. They provide a pathway for individuals to break out of their income level, create jobs, and build stronger communities. Unlike monopolies that stifle competition, small businesses drive creativity and customer-focused solutions.
By reducing unnecessary regulations, simplifying taxes, and ensuring fair labor policies, we empower entrepreneurs to grow and create opportunities for others. A thriving small business environment means more choices, better wages, and a stronger local economy.
Fairness Against Monopolies
Small businesses should not be crushed under regulations designed for massive corporations. We will ensure that labor and accessibility laws are fair and practical for small business owners.
The Kopf Med Act, an expanded Family-And-Medical-Leave-Act program, requires employers to keep jobs available for people who take leave for qualifying family and medical reasons. Major corporations easily have enough staff accommodate temporary staff replacements, while small businesses might never be able to fill a temporary position.
- FMLA requirements will are scaled based on the number of employees a business has, preventing unnecessary strain on small operations.
- ADA compliance should be based on reasonable accommodations for small businesses with space limitations.
- We will push back against monopolistic corporations that use excessive regulations to drive out competition.
Simplified Business Taxes
Business owners should be able to focus on growth, not endless tax paperwork. We propose a simpler, more transparent tax exemption system that eliminates unnecessary complexity and favors small businesses.
- Automatic tax exemptions for businesses under $500,000 annual revenue.
- One-page tax filing for small businesses.
- Elimination of redundant state-level business taxes.
FMLA Reform
Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requirements can be a burden on small businesses. We will adjust FMLA to apply only to businesses with 25 or more employees, ensuring small businesses are not unfairly strained.
- Small businesses with fewer than 25 employees will not be required to comply with our expanded FMLA.
- Encourage voluntary paid leave programs through tax incentives.
- Flexibility for small business owners to manage leave policies without federal overreach.
Regulation Adjustments
Regulations are important, but small businesses should not be held to the same standards as large corporations. We propose adjustments based on business size and physical space constraints.
It is current illegal to open a "micro business" in your house in many jurisdictions, due to various regulations (zoning laws, lack of an ADA size 6x6ft bathroom, etc). You can't tattoo from your home. You can't see accounting clients from your home. We will codify that a business with fewer than 3 employees or less than 600 sq feet of space is not required to make physical accommodations other than those necessary for health and safety..
End Zoning Laws
Zoning laws aren’t about protecting communities—they exist to entrench the power of landlords and established interests while making it harder for new businesses, housing, sustainable energy projects, and other development to take root. They stifle innovation, drive up costs, and prevent people from using their own land as they see fit.
Instead of restricting development with outdated regulations, we will eliminate zoning laws and replace them with common-sense nuisance controls. The government’s role should be to prevent harm, not block progress.
- Noise violations and genuine disturbances will face increased fines, such as noise over 75 decibles over 50 feet away being fined $300. Exemptions for construction projects as appropriate.
- Only businesses with over 10 simultaneous customers will be subject to location-based regulations. No city should be allowed to prevent you from having a home-based accounting business.
- Property owners will have the freedom to build homes, businesses, and solar projects without interference.
